Florida Panthers

When we talk about Miami, there is not a whole lot of people who would be thinking about ice hockey? But as a matter of fact, Miami is a home town to the one of the best hockey teams in America, Florida Panthers. Panther's home arena is BB&T Center, just a little west of Fort Lauderdale.

NHL

Panthers are part of NHL since 1993-94 season, when they joined together with Anaheim Ducks during NHL expansion. Panthers are owned by Blockbuster Video magnat Wayne Huizenga. As a new team, they had one of the best first seasons of any expansion team and barely missed the playoffs. Pantheres are well established now and one of the best teams in the Atlantic Division.

If you want to attend their home game, don’t forget to bring a rubber rat, which is comonly used to celebrate a goal here. This quite strange habit comes from the real story and starts in 95-96 season. During home openner of the season, rat was running alont the locker room. Team’s best scorer at the time Scott Mellanby got up and  shot the rat against the wall killing it, he scored 2 goals later that night. When the story got out, people started to celebrate goals by throwing rubber rats on the ice calling it “rat trick”.
