Everglades National Park is one of the most beautiful parks, you’ll ever visit. It’s strange combination of warm weather and species, that you can not see anywhere else in the world. Natural habitat to many endangered animals like West Indian Manatee, American Crocodile or Florida Panther.
Third largest National Park in the United states is only a one hour drive from very busy town of Miami. You will take either US 41 West, to get there and then get on one of the boat tours around Everglades or you can go down to Homestead and go trough the main park entrance. Don’t forget to charge your camera, take a plenty of water and mosquito repellant. There is also no food to be purchased, except little general store for campers.

Everglades National Park

Everglades National Park was established in 1934, it is designed as International Biosphere Reserve, Wetland of International Importance and World Heritage site. At least one million people from all over the world visit the Everglades each year. There are three main entry points: the Gulf Coast Visitor Center, which is closest to Naples and south of Everglades city; the Shark Valley area that can be accessed by US 41 (also known as the Tamiami Trail); and the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center, the park’s main headquarters.

Opening hours:

Park operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, however some entrances may be closed in the evening.

Entrances:

Homestead – Main Entrance: This entrances connects visitors to the Royal Palm and the Flamingo areas of the park. It is open 24 hours a day, but is not manned after 6:00 p.m. There is an entrance fee collected and separate fees for boat tours and canoe or other boat rentals at Flamingo.
Miami – Shark Valley Area: Opened daily from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There is an entrance fee collected at this entrance. and separate fees for tram tours or bike rentals. The park remains open 24 hours, but vehicles do not have access after 6:00 p.m.
Everglades City/Naples – Gulf Coast Area: Opened 24 hours a day. There is no entrance fee collected at this entrance, however there are fees for boat tours and canoe rentals.
Homestead – Chekika Area: Chekika closed in April of 2013 and will remain closed until sufficient resources are available to professionally maintain operations in the areas. User groups can still access the area through the use of special permits, though facilities won’t be maintained.

Camping:

Camping is available in Everglades. No reservation is required for a campground, you have to reserve your spot when you get there at the main office. Park rangers are making sure, that alligators and crocodiles are nowhere near your tent. There are grills all over the campground, you should bring your own wood or charcoal.
