Venetian Pool is a historic swimming pool located in Coral Gables, just south of Miami Downtown. Pool was created in a place of an old coral rock quarry, which was abandoned in 1921 and re-built into public swimming pool in 1924. Inspiration for the build was taken from old Italian town, Venice. There are Italian style columns everywhere and whole place has Mediterranean feel.
Early in its history, the pool was regularly drained completely to permit the Miami Symphony to perform in it, taking advantage of the quarry’s natural acoustic qualities. There were some attempts to refresh this amazing feature of the pool, but last time it actually happened was in 2001, to celebrate 75th anniversary of Coral Gables, where the pool is located.
